It was a welcome return to Eglinton Park at the weekend. Although various events were cancelled due to the adverse weather, the muddy conditions didnโt bother the 160 plus brave soles.
The annual, โRoon The Countryโ cross country event was also this weekend, taking place at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena, with a few of the club runners attending that too.
Last weekend was quiet on the running front, with just one outing. My Sunday run was once again through in the east coast and a familiar route, incorporating both the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and Scottish Half Marathon and 10k events.
This windy lunch run was 5.6 miles and took me 45:42, so not a bad time at all, considering the wind, but equally a great morning for a run.
The course I choose was mostly flat with a slight incline back through Prestonpans, following the drop going past Wallyford Park and Ride. This was after I had passed Royal Musselburgh golf course and Drummohr Campsite, where I encountered an incredible head wind โ great winter training!
From here it was through Levenhall Links and passed Musselburgh racecourse and the bird reserve, which always draws a large crowd of bird watchers, especially the coast along Musselburgh Sands, where the next part of my route took me, as I doubled back in myself, thankfully not to the almighty wind I previously encountered.
Once I was through the sand and trails, it was back onto the streets of Prestonpans and a short run into the town and up past the Police Station, which I always seem to finds a burst of energy and try and sprint up, never works out as plannedโฆ ha!
The next seven days didnโt really go according to plan and my training week took a hit due to feeling unwell. ๐ค
Having recovered well enough for the weekend and with no races planned, I had made the decision not to take part in the cross country at the athletics track. It was by all accounts a very well received event by the few brave souls from local clubs who did give it their all.
As mentioned, I did however manage to run around Eglinton Park on Saturday morning at parkrun. I didnโt set out to complete a fast run at all, more than happy with running around the park, through the puddles and mud!
That is exactly what I managed to achieve and with a time of 27:30, it was great to get out and enjoy the morning air; followed by a coffee and great catch up with friends in the cafe afterwards, talking about events in the forthcoming months, trail running in particular.
Like I mentioned before, the title of author hasnโt really been on my mind much. Iโm paying more attention now into marketing my book now and the feedback Iโve had so far had been really positive.
My strategy for this will be utilising social media and local book shops, etc. Just as a reminder all profits gained through my book sales will be going to charity. I’m really looking forward to planning my events for this year, with 20 10k races in 10 months definitely going ahead.
Have a great week and safe running this weekend. For me a wee trip to Vogrie Country Park may well be on the cards for a challenging 10k trail race, with Scurry Events. ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐จ
A very fitting wee tune too! ๐ผโ๏ธ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
